A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health. Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.
In addition to the above at Imagine Health Integrative Dentistry & Wellness we use many unique and cutting edge systems for prevention including:
- Silha: a screening tool to check for salivary markers that can indicate disease to help us prevent it.
- Airway Eval: It is important to look for signs of obstructed or narrow airway to prevent sleep apnea shich is a major risk factor for many chronics diseases. (add screening questionaire)
- Nutritional Counseling: Diet should always be a primary focus for prevention in dental health. At Imagine Health we focus on whole, unprocess foods high in fat soluable vitamins, D, E, A and K, Omega 3 fats and mineral rich foods and supplements. As well as avoiding polyunsaturated fats (seed oils), high fructose corn syrup, dyes and gums, which are often found in processed foods.
