Our office uses a variety of filling materials.

The traditional “silver” or amalgam fillings are still used widely in dentistry.  They tend to last the longest, however, over time with repeated chewing they can cause teeth to crack which usually need to be restored with crowns.

The newer “white” or resin fillings continue to improve and in laboratory studies are said to last longer and are stronger than older types of fillings.  This material can be used in both front and back teeth.  We use the most biocompatible resins to minimize any chemical exposure.

We also use fluoride filled materials.  These materials work well in areas close to the gumline where plaque tends to buildup.  There is a new product out now that is more esthetic than the original fluoride fillings and can be used anywhere resin is appropriate. This is especially helpful in patients with a high risk of cavities.
